Cost of Care
Costs vary by community, location and level of care. Here are common ways families cover them, and what to ask about.
✦
Many families use retirement income, savings, pensions and Social Security, sometimes combined with proceeds from selling a home.
✓
If your loved one has a long-term care policy, it may help pay for care. Check the policy’s benefits, waiting period and requirements.
★
Veterans and surviving spouses may qualify for benefits that help with care costs, such as VA Aid & Attendance. Eligibility rules apply, so ask us where to start.
⌂
Some Medicaid programs may help eligible seniors with long-term care. Rules are complex, and an elder law attorney can help you plan.
Good to know: Medicare generally does not pay for long-term custodial care such as assisted living. This is general information, not legal, financial or benefits advice. Eligibility and rules change, so please confirm with the program or a qualified professional.

FAQs
Does It Really Cost My Family Nothing?
Yes. Our advice, tour coordination and planning are free to families. We are compensated by participating senior living communities when a family we’ve helped chooses to move in.
Will You Only Recommend Communities That Pay You?
No. We are not owned, employed or obligated to recommend any community. If a provider compensates us, that never determines or influences the options we present.
What If My Parent Wants to Stay at Home?
Then we start there. We look first at whether home can work safely, with services, modifications or technology, and we’ll tell you honestly if it can’t.
Can You Help Quickly with a Hospital or Rehab Discharge?
Yes. Our advisors are experienced with hospital and skilled rehabilitation discharges that need immediate placement. Call (888) 574-3178, Monday to Saturday, 9am to 6pm.
Do You Help with the House and the Move Too?
Yes. We help with downsizing, decluttering, moving and home sale consultation, so the care decision and the practical work stay coordinated.
Do You Work with Senior Care Facilities?
Yes. We provide consulting to senior care facilities in security, risk management, floor care and maintenance, infection prevention, and survey and compliance readiness.
Still Have Questions?
